You want to create your own cute butterflies, like those I made for this tart? They are pretty easy.
You only need (for one specific colour):
- 50 g sugar
- 60ml water
- food colouring
- Firstly, you should draw the outline of the butterfly wings (depending on your needs). It might be easier with special butterfly cutters.
- You have to heat the sugar together with the food colouring and the water until the sugar has been dissolved. Then it has to be cooked with constant stirring until it turns into a thick and bubbling soup.
- By dropping a bit of it into a cold water bowl, you can test its readiness. If it is hard and easily breakable, you can start drawing your butterflies. If you want to use several colours, just wait a bit and repeat the instruction above.
- Just wait a bit for the glassy sugar to harden and form the bodies of your butterflies out of fondant, and join all the pieces together.
Now, you have cute little butterflies made from edible glass.
